When my dad died in August 1970, the priest came to say the rosary at the mortuary. A few minutes after beginning he stopped, said he was double booked, apologized and left. The room was full of people and overflowing out the door into the hallway. We were all shocked. Never went back to that church again. Later in December when my grandmother died, mom went down to take care of her services and burial. Pasadena. Grandma was very involved in the Catholic church. Mom went to Catholic schools. Mom told grandma’s friends, nuns and priests about what happened up here.
After mom was back home she got a call from our “old” church. They yelled and berated her about her talking to the people down south. Seems word was passed around down there among the clergy hierarchy and our local church got in trouble. We went to another church a couple of times but no more.
