0 Mass. highway official fired for saving kitty in another town
A central Massachusetts highway worker was fired after helping rescue a kitty stuck in a tree in Westminster. Library Director Jackie Prime said he had no idea his buddy Jim Mackie would be fired for it. Prime tells CBS Boston he reached out to Mackie after nobody else could get his daughter’s kitty Kabootle out of a tree. Mackie called a Phillipston highway worker who showed up with a town owned bucket truck. Mackie was able to rescue the cat, but the highway employee filed an ethics complaint against Mackie. He was fired last week by the Phillipston Board of Selectmen. more
0 288,000 jobs added in June
The Labor Department says the U.S. economy added 288,000 jobs in June, dropping the unemplyment rate from 6.3 percent to an almost six-year low of 6.1 percent. Bloomberg reports the median forecast in a Bloomberg survey of economists called for a 215,000 advance. The number of long-term unemployed Americans fell to 3.1 million, showing they’re having greater success finding work. more
